In sessions, I work with expecting couples or individuals experiencing emotional challenges during and after pregnancy. Creating a family can be the most exciting and yet scary journey of ones life. Whether you are a first timer, expecting your rainbow baby, or experiencing your next round of IVF, all come with changes to your body and mind. Having complications in your pregnancy can leave you feeling alone, ashamed, inadequate or angry. The emotional turmoil can be seen as withdrawing from your partner/family/friends, fear based anxiety, or thinking that you are being punished.

These feelings do not automatically disappear after birth. As a new parent, you may experience postpartum depression or anxiety as you adjust to a new role and life. The fears of keeping your baby safe and whether you are doing enough can be overwhelming. This can look like challenges attaching or attuning to your baby, resentment, mood swings, crying spells, and insomnia. How do you explain your sadness when everyone around you is thrilled about the baby?

In my work as a Maternal Mental Health Nurse, I hold a special place for individuals and couples that enter the hospital prenatally and come home without their baby. This grief can be all encompassing. Losing the life, before it began. Grappling yourself with the hurt and pain, medical terms, and family input. It can be hard to see the end of such a storm.

I use my education as a certified nurse midwife and my training in mental health to support you through the waves of the journey. In sessions, we will process the raw and un-edited feelings and thoughts you are experiencing in a safe and judgment free space. My priority is to create a space free of guilt and shame. You are able to feel what you need to feel and say what you need to express. We will work to create strategies that create change while addressing the physical changes of the body. I use trauma informed care and holistic approaches throughout the therapeutic process to accommodate each unique experience, needs, and goals for therapy.

If you’re ready to get started, I always offer a 15-min consult to see if we are a good fit. I’d love to help you or a member of your family get the help they need to live better.

Gardening! Watching plants grow and change and figuring out what works and what doesn’t, and there is nothing as delicious as eating a tomato fresh off the vine.
